For those who think well of extremely danceable and catchy eighties synth-pop, please meet Capital Cities. A musical duo coming from Los Angeles who just released the ultimate summer record, In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery. Last month, the band started their first European tour together with a full live band. The main members Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian are originally creators of radio jingles in Los Angeles. They met by chance through the American ad website Craigslist, where one of them was looking for a producer. The musical click was great and than soon reached further ambitions; Capital Cities was born and went hunting for perfect electro pop songs. You can find lots of cool songs collected on this debut album named In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery. You probably remember the song Safe and Sound, from the Vodafone commercial… This very catchy single kicks off the record. Andre 3000, from Outkast is featured another one of our favorite songs; Farrah Fawcett Hair. Click here to hear some more from Capital Cities.
Would you like to see these guys performing live? On the 4th of September Capital Cities’ European tour makes a stop at the Amsterdam Melkweg! Tickets are available via the Melkweg website.

Although it is a little cloudy, summer feelings are still there… In Haarlem they are responding to this by hosting Parksessies, a relaxing summer picnic with music, art and theatre. For four Wednesday evenings in July and August the city park, Haarlemmerhout will be transformed into a summer picnic paradise filled with various artists, theatre makers and musicians.
The sessions are being hosted by Joshua Baumgarten, also known as Mr. Weird Beard. This born American is one of the most important initiators of Rock ‘n’ Roll culture in Haarlem. Next to his own collective Irrational Libraryalready, Mr. Weird also owns a cool vintage store together with his wife Mara. The shop is located in the Doelstraat in Haarlem, where they regularly hosts fantastic instore-concerts, as you can find a healthy dose of art, cool kitch and instant coffee.
Our Friends from Picknick Rotterdam take care of a picnic-dinner as the Parkbar is the place to go for an ice cold drink… Think of nice Vedett beers, organic wines of the Grapedistrict and homemade lemonades. Last but not least there’s also Victor’s mobile espresso bar.
Do you have a Wednesday off, or like to relax after a busy day at work? Come sit down and drown yourself into the new picnic-style at the Haarlemmerhout park in Haarlem on July 24, July 31 and August 7… Entrance is for free, see you there!
